Revisitation

Revisitation is an interactive virtual reality installation that explores how personal and intergenerational memories can be experienced through space, time, and interaction. Drawing from the artist’s own family history, the work brings together photographs, recorded voices, moving images, and everyday domestic objects to form a navigable memory environment.

Inside the virtual space, visitors enter a series of interior scenes inspired by living rooms from different periods. Objects within these spaces act as narrative anchors: when touched or activated, they reveal fragments of stories through sound, image, and motion. Rather than presenting a complete or linear archive, the installation allows memories to surface gradually, shaped by movement, attention, and choice.

By combining immersive technology with intimate storytelling, Revisitation approaches memory as something lived and re-encountered rather than stored. The project invites reflection on how memories are constructed, carried, and transformed as they move across generations, spaces, and media.

Yudi Cao is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Toronto and Beijing. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from OCAD University and is currently completing a Master of Design in Digital Futures at OCAD University.

Her practice moves across illustration, digital media, and interactive design, with a long-standing interest in memory, time, and storytelling. Drawing from her illustration background, she approaches narrative as something that unfolds across space, media, and experience rather than through linear form alone.

Working across physical and digital formats, Cao explores how stories are constructed, translated, and re-experienced through different technologies. Her work often sits between art and design, combining careful observation, visual sensitivity, and experimental use of tools to examine how meaning shifts when narratives move between mediums.
